How to Upgrade if You've Missed Multiple Versions
Table of Contents
HomeKeeper typically releases one version per year, with new features and improved functionality. Upgrades are always free. We announce upgrades to primary contacts and through our newsletter. If you've missed multiple versions, upgrading may seem overwhelming. This article walks you through this process.
Best Practices for Upgrading
NOTE: You only need to upgrade using the link in latest version's release notes.
Always refer to prior release notes and review manual updates
Not all updates happen automatically when you upgrade. Occasionally, there are manual steps needed to complete updates or access new features. We recommend reviewing manual updates from each release to utilize the features available as a HK participating org!
The release notes linked below detail the upgrade process and how to complete the manual updates that are relevant to your program. In newer Release Notes, we note at the top whether or not manual steps are included in the upgrade. These steps are indicated by a red ‘Action Required' header.

Keep Permission Sets Up to Date
To manage HomeKeeper access and permissions, you have the option to use permission sets, which were first released in Version 2.9. Whenever a new field is added to HomeKeeper, those permission sets are updated. If you are using those permission sets and need the new versions after upgrading, reach out to support at support@myhomekeeper.org to receive the updated permission sets.
What happens to customizations when you upgrade HomeKeeper?
The short answer is that they will most likely be preserved during the upgrade. Generally speaking, HomeKeeper is a Managed Package - we do rigorous testing within the Salesforce ecosystem per their requirements so we know our package is stable. Salesforce also has strict guidelines about what we can change to existing fields, objects, and functionality as they know what can have unintended down stream effects. With that said, we can't account for everything!
If you are upgrading multiple versions at once and are concerned about your customizations or data integrity, we highly recommend testing your upgrade in a sandbox first. Check out this article for more information on using a sandbox to test new HomeKeeper versions.

Push Upgrades
HomeKeeper's product team has begun offering Scheduled Push Upgrades where our team can coordinate with you to schedule a time where the upgrade will happen automatically at a scheduled time. This is especially helpful to ensure the upgrades happen after hours so you have adequate time to prepare your users for new features.
We can also help you work through upgrades from older versions if you're having any issues. Submit a ticket to schedule a push upgrade!
